How to Identify Termites

Termite workers are small, cream or white colored insects. Termite reproductive swarmers are black and are sometimes mistaken for flying ants. They can be differentiated from ants by their straight antennae and the uniform shape and size of their waists and wings. Termites swarm in the early spring. Swarming termites may gather around windows and light sources. Soon after they leave their colony, the insects lose their wings. Infestations may produce large numbers of tiny, uniform termite wings near your home's foundation or window sills. You may also see termites emerging from woodpiles, tree stumps, wood fence posts and other outdoor wooden structures.
